Knot the Reel World Fly Fishing is proud to offer several different trips for anglers across Virginia and the North Carolina coast. With drives from twenty to seventy minutes away, we have numerous options to plan your day near Richmond. Our North Carolina trips are based out of Morehead City, NC in late August, September and October, as well as January through March.
Beginner or expert, our guides can teach you to cast, hook and land fish, or help you explore a new area and techniques.
Shad Fishing the James River (Mid April): The shad run on historic James River occurs in April. Toss flies for these hard fighting fish from our safe and stable Hewes Redfisher flats boat. Fishing for striped bass is a possibility as well. Five hours on the water.

Spring Trophy Smallmouth Fishing the New River (April-May): KTRW is proud to announce a partnership with New River Fly Fishing offering full day float trips for trophy smallmouth bass, in April and May. Most of these fish are able to be targeted with poppers, imitating shad and alewives moving upriver to spawn. Anglers will float the scenic New River upstream (south) of Claytor Lake. This is an excellent chance to get trophy smallmouth bass on the fly, on topwater! Trips will be run from mid April until Memorial Day Weekend. We are only able to offer these trips during the week. All trips are run out of a safe and stable NRS raft. Full day / eight hour float.

Late Summer and Fall Bull Redfish trips (August-September): We are proud to now offer late summer and fall trips for redfish from the Morehead City area. Fish from our safe and stable Hewes Redfisher 18. Fly and spin fish for bull red fish 42-45” long in the Neuse River. Eight hour trip.

Late Summer and Fall Cape Lookout saltwater trips (August-September): We are now proud to offer late summer and fall trips for a variety of species of fish around Cape Lookout, North Carolina. Trips leave from the Morehead City area. Fish from our safe and stable Hewes 18 Redfisher. Fly and spin fish for redfish, sea trout, mackerel, bluefish, false albacore, sharks, and more! Eight hour trip.

Fly fish the Chickahominy Reservoir: Fly fish the gorgeous Chickahominy Reservoir for Largemouth Bass, Bowfin and Chain Pickerel. Only 40 minutes east of Richmond, this body of water is lined with Cypress trees and lilly pads and makes you feel as if you are fishing a swamp in the deep south! This is a fly fishing trip around some very wild looking water in Virginia. Fish from our safe and stable Hewes Redfisher 18 flats boat! Five hour trip.

Fly fish the Chesapeake Bay (June-October): Join us on a saltwater fly fishing trip for Striped Bass, Sea Trout, Puppy Drum, Bluefish, Croaker and White Perch at the mouth of the Rappahannock River. Launch from beautiful Topping, Virginia (70 minutes from Richmond) and fish the surrounding docks, grass beds and islands for feisty saltwater fish. Trips may be tide dependent. Five hour trip.

Fly fish for Snakeheads (May-early August): Ever heard of the infamous Snakehead? The invasive fish that breathes air and walks on land? Well they love to eat flies with vicious attacks and head shaking fights! Come throw frog flies in lilly pad fields for a heart pounding strike! Fish from our safe and stable Hewes 18 Redfisher flats boat. 70 minute drive from Richmond. Trips may be tide dependent. Five hour trip.

Wade fishing near Richmond, Virginia (May-September): Spend an afternoon wet wading the historic James River or North Anna River stalking Smallmouth Bass, Catfish, Spotted Gar, Sunfish and more! This is the perfect trip for the beginner fly fisherman or the more experience fly angler looking to catch a variety of fish, close to Richmond. Hone your fly fishing skills within eyesight of the Richmond skyline or further up the river. Learn to read the river water, entice numerous species to eat your fly and enjoy an afternoon on a local historic waterway. Four hours of fishing.

Wade fishing the Rivanna River in Palmyra, VA (May-September): Spend an afternoon wet wading the Rivanna south of Charlottesville for Smallmouth Bass, Gar and more! This is the perfect trip for the beginner fly fisherman or the more experience fly angler looking to catch a variety of fish, close to Charlottesville. Very pretty river with easy wading. Four hours of fishing.

Winter and Spring Musky Trips on the New River (January to May): Ever wanted to try and tangle with the elusive fish of 10,000 casts, the Muskellunge? The New River one of the best spots on the East Coast to hook into one and we know some great holes where they like to hang out. Contact us for availability on chasing after these apex predators with a fly rod! January to May time frame. Full day / eight hour float

$100 DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED FOR ALL FLY FISHING TRIPS.
Cancelation policy: Trips can be canceled for reschedule up to fourteen days prior to date of trip by client. In the event of foul weather, Knot the Reel World will notify client of need to reschedule. In the event a trip must be moved due to weather or client cancelation, Knot the Reel World and client will have one year to reschedule trip before return of deposit.
All rods, reels, flies and necessary equipment provided! We also provide water and sodas for our guests.
Fishing licenses are NOT provided by KTRW. Licenses can be purchased online at www.dgif.virginia.gov.
What to bring: Polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks or lunch, clothes that can get wet and potentially dirty.
